Two people injured after motorcycle crashes with SUV on Route 4 in Auburn

Auburn police said Route 4 has reopened to all traffic.

AUBURN, Maine — Two people suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash on Route 4 in Auburn Saturday afternoon.

Auburn Police said it happened around 1:15 p.m. near Gammon Landscaping. They say a man was driving his motorcycle with his passenger when they made an abrupt lane change to avoid an unidentified vehicle that had pulled out in front of them. That quick move caused them to hit an SUV, and the collision threw them from the motorcycle.

Police said they suffered serious injuries. The passenger was taken to Maine Medical Center, while the driver was taken to Central Maine Medical Center.

Police did not know if they were wearing helmets.

The road reopened around 5:15 p.m.

After a search, police said the "unidentified vehicle came forward and is cooperating with the investigation."

Anyone who has information related to the crash is asked to call the Auburn Police Department at 333-6650, send them a private message, or email Officer TJ Ellis at TEllis@auburnmaine.gov.
