PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Portland Police say they will not charge the person who stabbed a man in a Denny's parking lot two years ago because it was self-defense.
On April 28, 2016, 31- year-old Anthony Best was stabbed in the parking lot of Denny's at 1220 Brighton Avenue in Portland. He died on May 20, 2016 at Maine Medical Center.
After a lengthy two year investigation, Portland Police announced Wednesday, May 16, 2018 that no one involved in a fight that ultimately led to Best's death would be charged.
Prior to the stabbing, police say a fight broke out between two groups at PT's Show Club.
Best was born in Bangor and attended Calais High School.
According to his obituary in the Bangor Daily News, "Anthony loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, spending time with family and friends, and most importantly, cherished being with his two sons, Ahtuwen and Beckham. Anthony will be remembered by many for his passionate and kind ways, always the first to go out of his way to help others."
