CASCO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The latest crop of cadets from the Maine Warden Service were out on Sebago Wednesday for water safety training.

The cadets are learning all of the skills they need to become game wardens. A significant part of their job during the summer months is routine boating inspections. Wardens are trained to make sure everyone on board has a life preserver, and to make sure no one is operating under the influence. They also have to look for fish on board, to see if any catch limits are being violated. Sgt. Jason Luce says the inspections get easier with time and practice.

"It comes with experience," Luce said. "They will know exactly what to ask for and it will just become second nature to ask for it."

Wardens say they plan to be out in full force on the water during 4th of July weekend.
