Portland police investigate crash on I-295 that injured two people

The crash, which closed the Exit 8 in Portland for several hours, is being investigated by Portland police.

PORTLAND, Maine — Two people were injured in a crash Monday morning on a southbound offramp of Interstate 295 in Portland. No charges were filed by the afternoon, but police said the crash is being investigated.

Emergency crews responded shortly after 8 a.m. to a crash involving two vehicles on Tukey's Bridge, forcing a busy exit in Maine's largest city to close for several hours.

Exit 8 to Washington Avenue remained closed to traffic until the afternoon, according to Portland police.

The crash occurred when a 37-year-old man from Portland who was driving an Infiniti G25 apparently rear-ended a Honda Civic driven by a 52-year-old woman, Portland police spokesperson Brad Nadeau said Monday afternoon in a news release.

The man was ejected from the vehicle and was brought to Maine Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries not considered life-threatening, according to Nadeau, and the driver of the Honda suffered minor injuries and was brought to Northern Light Mercy Hospital for care.

No charges stemming from the crash were filed as of Monday evening, but police said the crash was being investigated.

Police ask that any witnesses to the crash or anyone with information that could aid their investigation to contact the department at 207-874-5832 or 207-874-8575.

Maine State Police were at the scene to assist Portland police, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine.
