Body found in Penobscot River

The body was found in Greenbush off Main Road.

GREENBUSH, Maine — A body was found in the Penobscot River in Greenbush on Sunday.

Emergency officials in the area were notified about the discovery and responded to an area near Main Road at about 2 p.m., according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office

The body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta per protocol, the sheriff's office said.

"At this time, no further information will be provided until the (medical examiner) has made identification," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The sheriff's criminal investigation division is investigating.

The sheriff's office said their agency was assisted by the Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police in the response.
