Maine State Police introduce two new canine employees

Meet Pepper the bloodhound and Marley the yellow lab.

MAINE, USA — The Maine State Police have added two new pups to the police pack, a bloodhound with a gift for sniffing and a yellow lab who can track electronic devices.

Police introduced the two K-9s in a Thursday social media post.

"First up is Pepper the bloodhound. Pepper's only duties for the department is to use her otherworldly nose to track people and items of interest. She's been with us for just about three weeks, and has already been building up her skills," the post stated.

Maine State Police welcomes Pepper to the K9 force.

State police said nine-month-old Pepper is already able to track scents over a half-mile away, even if the scent went through the area several hours prior.

"Next, we've got Marley. Marley is an incredible dog that is trained to track electronic devices. He is able to clear a scene that would take our officers hours in a fraction of the time," the post stated.

Marley the labrador is also a comfort dog.

The post said state police will continue to update the public on the pups' progress.
