BANGOR, Maine — Fans of a couple of holiday season mainstays can look forward to more than their usual yuletide cameo appearances.

Out of all the celebrities that Adam Sandler name checks in "The Hanukkah Song," who gets the honor of the first shout out? To quote the lyrics:

"David Lee Roth lights the menorah."

For anyone too young to remember early 1980s music scene, back when the only thing bigger than the guitar riffs was the hair, Roth was the flamboyant and temperamental frontman of Van Halen. Some of their biggest hits include "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher."

Tensions in the band led Roth to break away for a solo career that produced more chart toppers such as "Just Like Paradise" and "California Girls."

Roth will unleash his music catalog on Maine for a performance at Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor on September 3, 2020. He'll accompany KISS as a special guest on their End of the Road tour.

If you'd rather spend your entertainment dollars on belly laughs instead of head banging, Artie Lange might be a better fit for you.

Like Roth, Lange also has a holiday claim to fame as the department store Santa who traded blows with Will Ferrell in the movie "Elf." Their exchange spawned several memorable quotes including:

"You smell like beef and cheese. You don't smell like Santa."

Not all of Lange's credits are quite as family-friendly. Few subjects were off limits during his years on the radio as a contributor to "The Howard Stern Show." His edgy material also suited the late-night hours of Fox's sketch comedy show "Mad TV."

Mainers will get to experience his comedy routine in person on March 6, 2020, at the State Theatre in Portland.
