A large pickup truck was backing out of a parking space when it hit the pedestrian, according to Phippsburg police.

PHIPPSBURG, Maine — A pedestrian died in a crash in the parking lot of Bisson's Center Store in Phippsburg Tuesday morning.

The store is on Main Road, and the crash happened around 8 a.m., Phippsburg Police Chief John Skroski told NEWS CENTER Maine.

A large pickup truck was backing out of a parking space when it hit the pedestrian, according to Skroski.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on the pedestrian's body. Officials have not publicly identified the person who died.

Skroski said it does not appear speed was a factor in the crash, adding the Sagadahoc County District Attorney's Office has been contacted per protocol.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Team also responded to the scene, along with the Phippsburg Fire Department and the Brunswick Police Department's Drone Team.
