HERMON, Maine — The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office is investigating a three-vehicle crash on Route 2 in Hermon, in the area of Spruce Street and Hillcrest Drive.

It happened shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Deputies determined a vehicle pulled out of a driveway into the path of an oncoming vehicle, causing the two vehicles to collide and one of the vehicles to strike a utility pole, the release stated. The impact from the vehicle caused the utility pole to collapse and come to rest on top of one of the vehicles involved, according to the release. A third vehicle attempted to avoid the collision and, in the process, went off the roadway and rolled over, officials said.

Drivers of two of the vehicles were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, and the third driver was not injured, the release stated. All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene, the sheriff's office said.

Central Maine Power arrived shortly after the crash, replacing the utility pole and rendering the scene safe.

The sheriff's office has not publicly identified anyone involved in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
