Justin Williams is accused of driving at alleged “criminal speeds” before crashing on I-295. His car caught fire and he suffered serious injuries, per police.

BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 21-year-old Saco man was injured following a car crash Saturay morning on I-295 in Brunswick.

A deputy with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a car driven by Justin Williams that was heading south on Interstate 295 in Brunswick at approximately 7:54 a.m., at alleged “criminal speeds” of 30 miles per hour above the posted speed limit, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Captain Brian Ackerman said in a news release.

When Williams tried to get off the highway at Exit 28, he reportedly lost control and crashed.

William’s car went off the road and hit a large pine tree before catching on fire, Ackerman said.

Emergency personnel were able to remove Williams from the burning car and took him to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Police said he suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Officials said the crash was being investigated to determine if Williams will face criminal charges.

The southbound exit was closed for two hours while crews cleared the crash.
