Motorcyclist killed in Auburn crash

Police said witnesses at the scene tried to provide medical care to the motorcyclist, but they did not survive.

AUBURN, Maine — A motorcyclist was fatally injured Friday following a collision with a car in Auburn.  

Police and fire crews responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. to a report of a serious crash involving a car and motorcycle at the intersection of South Main Street and Witham Road, the Auburn Police Department said in a release.

Initial investigation revealed a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle struck a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle while attempting to turn onto South Main Street from Witham Road, according to the release.

Police said witnesses at the scene tried to provide medical care to the motorcyclist, but they did not survive.

The occupants of the Volkswagen were not seriously injured, police said.

The two roads were closed for several hours while officials reconstructed the crash.

Police added further details were not being released at this time, including the identity of the deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.
