Thousands across Maine on 5th day without power from nor'easter

About 3,500 were still without power Monday night due to last week's storm.

MAINE, USA — Thousands across Maine on Monday were going on their fifth day without power from last week's nor'easter.

As of 4:52 p.m., there were 3,429 Central Maine Power customers without power. The company said it expects to get power back for most of those people by tomorrow. Many of the outages have expected restoration times posted, while a few are listed as "assessing." A CMP spokesperson said the company's outage list on its website sometimes goes directly from "assessing" to "restored."

The storm, which started Wednesday night and generated heavy snow and strong winds, knocked out power to more than 375,000. There were dozens of vehicle crashes and instances of trees falling on homes and vehicles. In Wells, an 80-foot pine tree snapped and pierced through a home. No serious injuries were reported from the storm.

A Versant spokesperson said power was fully restored to all affected customers Saturday.

Some communities like Harpswell completely lost power during the storm. Many York County communities were also hit hard.

People flocked to warming centers and food pantries, which have struggled to keep up with demand.

A CMP spokesperson said the storm ranked among the 10 most severe in terms of outages in the state.
