New Hampshire man dies in head-on Falmouth crash

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, but alcohol is believed to be a factor, officials said.

FALMOUTH, Maine — A New Hampshire man is dead after a head-on crash in Falmouth on Wednesday night.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday, state troopers responded to a report of a fatal crash on the Falmouth Spur, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

"The location of the crash was on the east end of the spur on the ramp areas which is not a divided highway," Moss said.

An initial investigation revealed 54-year-old Raymond Giard III, of Nashua, New Hampshire, was driving his black Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the spur on the wrong side of the roadway. While driving on the wrong side, Giard crashed head-on into a silver Honda CRV driven by 49-year-old Charles Jack, of Poland, according to the release.

Jack sustained serious injuries not considered life-threatening, and Giard was pronounced dead at the scene, Moss stated.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, but according to Moss, alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Maine State Police were assisted by the Falmouth Fire Department and Falmouth Police Department.
