Driving reminders after first snowfall

BANGOR, Maine (NEWSCENTER) - As Mainers took in the first snowfall of the season this weekend, it serves as a reminder to drive carefully on the roads.

With the first snow fall, roads had not yet been treated and drivers had to readjust to driving in different weather conditions.

According to State police there were multiple accidents reported on Friday night. Bangor police say they responded to over a dozen accidents.

"I think that it is almost a cause of panic, and so you can be confident in your driving skills, but it's keeping an eye out for other drivers out there," said Justin Underwood as he was shoveling in Bangor.

The Bangor Public Works Department began planning for the storm on Friday. On Saturday they deployed 35 pieces of equipment to maintain the roads.

"The biggest advice is for drivers to just go slow, and for our drivers to go slow, for the residents to just stay off the roads. It just makes it easier for us to do our jobs," said John Russell of the Bangor Public Works Department.

The Bangor Public Works Department says they are already planning for Tuesday's snowfall.
