BELGRADE (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A bloodhound in Belgrade has taken some baby chicks under her paw, adopting them as her own pups.

Kate Foster says she brought home some two-week-old chicks over the weekend and feared her 15-month-old dog, Dixie, would try to eat them.

After a short while, Dixie took the chicks right under her paw, sleeping, and nestling with them. Foster says the bloodhound is even careful with how she puts her paws down on them.

"I have heard about dogs adopting other animals as their own but never seen it happen and I can definitely say that she has adopted these chicks as her pups, lol."

Foster says Dixie eyes her like a hawk when she handles the chicks; a sign her maternal protection instincts may be on alert.

We think Dixie and her chicks are even cuter than the original.

The evident bond is something to see. Check it out in the post below.
