PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man was sentenced Tuesday in a Portland court for conspiring to distribute cocaine.

Tyler Vangel, 30, was sentenced to 50 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine said in a release.

According to the release, Vangel is also known under the names of Tyler Linscott, Tyler Carter, and Andrew Flanagan.

Vangel initially pleaded guilty on Oct. 31.

"According to court records, while investigating Sebastian Demers in early 2022 for suspected child exploitation, law enforcement learned that Demers was also selling drugs and that Vangel was Demers’ supplier," the release stated.

As a result, investigators began inquiring about Vangel and learned between January 2021 and June 2022 he "regularly obtained and transported large quantities of cocaine from a Lawrence, Massachusetts-based supplier to be distributed by himself and others, including Demers, to customers in Maine," the release said.

While investigating, evidence was seized including Vangel's phone, which revealed orders from lower-level distributors that requested a "basket" (3.5 grams) and "half key" (half kilogram). Vangel reportedly responded to the orders that he had a "brick" (kilogram).

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.

No further information was released.
