Parking lot shooting on UMA-Bangor campus leaves one person hospitalized

The Bangor Police Department said one man is in the hospital after he was shot in a parking lot on Taft Street in Bangor following an argument.

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting in the city that sent one man to the hospital.

The incident happened around midnight Saturday, Bangor police Lt. Brent Beaulieu said Sunday in a press release.

When officers arrived at a parking lot on Taft Street where the incident was reported to have occurred, they found a man with gunshot wounds. The person believed to have shot him was apparently located nearby, police said.

The shooting appears to have taken place around the University of Maine at Augusta's Bangor campus. A spokesperson with UMA campus security told NEWS CENTER Maine that nobody was scheduled to be on campus at the time of the shooting and that Bangor police were handling the investigation.

Beaulieu said there had been some sort of argument between the two people that allegedly led up to the shooting. He said both people involved in the incident were experiencing homelessness and were living out of their cars.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. Police are still investigating.

No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning.
