Police identify victim in Westbrook homicide investigation

Officials responded to an apartment on Mechanic Street early Tuesday morning where a man was reportedly found dead.

WESTBROOK, Maine — Officials have ruled a Westbrook death investigation that began on Tuesday a homicide, and the victim has been identified.

Westbrook police responded to 79 Mechanic St. Apt. 6 shortly before 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a Wednesday morning news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. Officers reportedly found a man dead at the residence, and his death was deemed suspicious.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called to assist in the investigation.

Following an autopsy, the individual was identified as 61-year-old Clarence James Pearson of Westbrook, and his death was ruled a homicide, Moss said in an update Wednesday afternoon.

The cause of Pearson's death is not being released at this time, and police believe his death was an "isolated incident." The investigation is ongoing.

Those with information regarding the incident are asked to call Maine State Police at 207-624-7076.
