Officials investigate Readfield house fire that was 'intentionally set'

In addition to the one-and-a-half-story home, a camper trailer and outbuilding also burned in the fire, a state official said.

READFIELD, Maine — Officials are investigating a house fire that happened in Readfield Wednesday morning.

The fire started at about 8:15 a.m. at 9 Cherrywood Lane, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine.

In addition to the one-and-a-half-story home, a camper trailer and outbuilding also burned in the fire, according to Moss.

Moss added that a dog was rescued from the camper trailer.

"The fire was intentionally set," Moss stated Wednesday.

The investigation into the fire remains ongoing, and there is no threat to the public.

Agencies that responded to the fire included fire departments from the towns of Winthrop, Readfield, Wayne, Augusta, and Mt. Vernon, Augusta Rescue, Winthrop Rescue, the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office, Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service, and police departments from Winthrop and Monmouth.

No additional information was released.
