'Harry Potter' concert comes to Portland this weekend

Viewers can expect the "Harry Potter" films to be projected on a big screen while a live symphony orchestra performs.

PORTLAND, Maine — Calling all witches, wizards, and Muggles! The Harry Potter Film Concert Series is set to be performed in Portland this weekend.

According to Wizarding World, the concerts are a "unique and immersive experience that combines the magic of film with the enchanting power of live music."

During the event, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" will be projected in high definition on a big screen while the Portland Symphony Orchestra performs live.

The performances are composed by John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat, according to Wizarding World.

Shih-Hung Young has conducted orchestras around the world, but this will be his first time working with the Portland Symphony Orchestra. They will only have two rehearsals together before opening night, and Young said it's about gaining each other's trust quickly to bring the magic to life.

"It's a very powerful experience to be able to watch this live," Young said. "We've all watched it on DVD in our own home studios, but to be able to see it live in a big theater on a huge HD screen and seeing over 80 people on stage working to make this magic happen and for the audience, it's almost like you get a behind the scenes look at it to see the making of this music and what makes it so extremely incredible."

The concert series will be performed at Merrill Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1. Two performances will be held Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $72-$92.

Whether you are Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Gryffindor, be sure to buy your tickets soon. Tickets are limited for the Friday show and 2 p.m. Saturday show.
