One round of storms through, another on the way

Round 1 of severe storms is through, now we await the next round.

We had one line of severe thunderstorms already roll through Maine, with a concentration over York County. Some of those storms had wind gusts over 50 MPH and some broad rotation.

Now we wait for Round 2.

The next round will be touched off by the cold front itself, whereas the first storms were out ahead of the air mass boundary.

One of the better small scale models has the second line flaring up nicely in the mountains and foothills this afternoon:

These storms will threaten strong straight-line winds with some isolated rotation possible. That rotation implies the ability to see a funnel cloud or low end tornado. The risk is there, but it's not particularly high.

The line appears to weaken a bit as it heads to the coastline by this evening, likely gusting out at that time.

Heavy downpours will be a factor in any and all storms that develop today, leading to the possibility of some flash flooding.

I'll keep you updated online and on the air as these storms pop.
