Route 1 in Scarborough has reopened following serious crash

Drivers were asked to avoid the area between Pine Point Road and the Saco town line.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — A portion of Route 1 in Scarborough was closed due to a serious crash that took place around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.  

Both southbound lanes were closed to traffic while crews were at the scene, according to the Scarborough Fire Department. 

Drivers were asked to avoid the area between Pine Point Road and the Saco town line, Scarborough police said.

Route 1 reopened around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, the fire department said in a Facebook post.  

Three people were brought to the hospital for medical evaluation, police said Thursday afternoon in a news release. 

The crash remains under investigation. 

Scarborough police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call Officer Shawn Anastasoff at 207-730-4333.
