Two people die in Old Town crash

The victims, who were traveling in the same vehicle, were both under the age of 30.

OLD TOWN, Maine — Two people died in a crash in Old Town Thursday morning.

It happened around 5:45 a.m. at mile marker 199 on Interstate 95 southbound, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release.

The driver, 26-year-old Patrick McMullin of Howland, and his passenger, 18-year-old Treasa Savage of Lincoln, both died at the scene, the release stated.

Moss said an initial investigation indicated McMullin was driving southbound when he lost control of his Jeep while trying to pass another vehicle. The Jeep went off the roadway and hit a tree, according to the release.

Maine State Police responded to the scene, along with the Maine Department of Transportation, Old Town Police Department, Old Town Fire Department, and Sullivan's Automotive Service.

The interstate was reduced to one lane for about two hours in the area of the crash.
