Mainer Ryan Flaherty signs with Phillies

After six seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, utility player and former Deering high school baseball star Ryan Flaherty is moving on.

(NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Baltimore Orioles utility player and former Deering high school baseball star Ryan Flaherty is moving on.

Flaherty signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. He will compete for his position in spring training and will reportedly make $1.9 million if he makes the Phillies' big league roster. If he doesn't make the roster by March 22, he can request his release.

Flaherty spent the last six seasons with the Orioles and hit free agency this winter.

NEWS CENTER Maine spoke with Flaherty on Thursday. He said at 31 years old, he feels he has a lot more in the tank and is excited for this new challenge.

Flaherty tweeted Thrusday thanking the fans and players in Baltimore for all their support throughout the years.
