Red Sox series coming to Netflix will likely feature several former Sea Dogs

This marks the first Major League Baseball documentary series on the popular streaming platform.

PORTLAND, Maine — If you've ever wondered what goes on both on and off the field for the Boston Red Sox, your chance to delve into the behind-the-scenes action is just around the corner.

Netflix is set to launch a documentary series that will closely follow the Red Sox during the 2024 season. This marks the first Major League Baseball documentary series on the popular streaming platform.

The Portland Sea Dogs, the Red Sox's double-A affiliate, revealed that 10-15 former double-A players may make appearances on the show, including any call-ups they receive throughout the upcoming season.

Fans can anticipate an intimate look at the players' lives, both as athletes and individuals. The documentary aims to provide a unique perspective, showcasing the human side of these athletes.

The documentary series will be directed and produced by One Potato Productions, the creative minds behind popular shows like "Cheer" and "Last Chance U."

"In my position, I get to know the players behind the scenes with hotels, bus rides, and the long grind of the season. So, I get to know them better than most people. But to know that now fans will get that access and get to know them better too, I think will be a really special opportunity for everybody," Emma Tiedemann, the director of broadcasting for the Sea Dogs, said.

"The first of its kind for baseball," Tiedemann added. "I think it's an honor that the Red Sox get to be the first, and to get to see the familiar faces will be really cool."

In addition to the 2024 season documentary, Netflix is also working on another Red Sox show scheduled for release later in the year. This untitled documentary will look back at the historic 2004 Red Sox season, featuring one of the greatest comebacks in sports history and the franchise's first World Series title in 86 years.

As spring training for the Red Sox kicks off, fans can eagerly anticipate a unique and unprecedented perspective on their favorite team.

The documentary series on the 2024 season is expected to hit Netflix in 2025.
