South Portland man sent to hospital after fiery crash at Hampton Toll Plaza in New Hampshire

New Hampshire State Police said Patrick Jones "suddenly changed lanes" when approaching the toll plaza, hit a concrete structure, and his truck caught fire.

HAMPTON, New Hampshire — A South Portland man was sent to a New Hampshire hospital Saturday evening after a crash at the Hampton Toll Plaza, New Hampshire State Police said.

According to a release, Patrick Jones, 43, was driving northbound on Interstate 95 when he "suddenly changed lanes" while approaching the toll plaza. Police said he hit a concrete abutment next to a toll booth, causing his pick-up truck to go airborne and then catch on fire.

When troopers arrived on scene, they found the truck fully engulfed in flames.

Jones was sent to Portsmouth Regional Hospital to be treated for his serious injuries not considered life-threatening, the release stated. His child passenger was reportedly uninjured in the crash but was also sent to the hospital as a precaution.

No one else was injured in the crash. Multiple lanes at the tolls were closed as firefighters put out the blaze and police began their investigation.

While impairment is not suspected to be a factor, all aspects of the crash remain under investigation, according to police.
