Missing 76-year-old Rangeley Plantation man found dead

The man was last seen Monday morning near his home on West Shore Drive, officials said.

RANGELEY PLANTATION, Maine — A 76-year-old man from Rangeley Plantation was found dead Monday night after he was reported missing earlier in the day.

At approximately 9 p.m., a Maine game warden and K9 located the body of Ernest Van Soeren in Rangeley Lake, roughly a quarter-mile from his home on West Shore Drive, according to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti.

Van Soeren was reportedly found in shallow water near the shoreline.

He had last been seen around 9:45 a.m. near his home, and emergency personnel had been searching since 6:30 p.m. Latti said it is unknown how Van Soeren ended up in the water.

In an earlier news release, Latti said Van Soeren had Alzheimer's and could have appeared disoriented.

His death is not considered suspicious at this time.

Latti said Van Soeren was brought to Wiles Funeral Home in Farmington where the state medical examiner will determine his cause of death.
