Two charged in connection with theft of 11 guns

Police said a man and a teenage companion have been charged with burglary in connection with the theft of 11 guns.

SALEM TOWNSHIP, Maine

(NEWS CENTER) -- State Police said a man and a teenage companion have been charged with burglary in connection with the theft of 11 guns from a home in Salem Township, near Kingfield.

53-year-old David Ireland, of Corinna was arrested this week. Also charged, but not arrested, was a 17-year-old boy. Ireland is being held at the Franklin County Jail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday in a Farmington.

Troopers said a homeowner on Salem Road reported the burglary earlier in the month and said that 11 rifles and handguns were stolen. Last week, police got a tip that Ireland had pawned one of the stolen guns at a pawn shop in Newport. The gun was turned over to State Police.

Ireland's home was searched by troopers, but the missing guns were not located. Ireland is charged with burglary, theft and furnishing a prescription drug. The teenager is charged with burglary and theft.

Anyone with information on the missing firearms is asked to contact State Police in Augusta at 624-7076.
