York County deputies looking for person who helped free driver from vehicle fire

Witnesses reportedly told deputies a passerby pulled the driver out of the vehicle after seeing the fire, but the passerby left the scene before officials arrived.

LEBANON, Maine — Deputies in York County are searching for a person they're describing as a good Samaritan after a driver was rescued from a vehicle fire Monday night in Lebanon.

The York County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook that deputies responded to a crash Monday night on Long Swamp Road in Lebanon after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Initial reports indicated the driver was trapped inside while the vehicle was on fire, the sheriff's office said.

When first responders arrived, they discovered the vehicle on fire, but the driver was safe outside the vehicle. Deputies said the driver received medical attention and was taken to an area hospital.

Witnesses reportedly told deputies a passerby pulled the driver out of the vehicle after seeing the fire, but the passerby left the scene before officials arrived.

None of the witnesses knew the identity of the passerby, deputies said.

The sheriff's office is looking to identify that person.
