TRENTON, Maine — A 19-year-old from Mount Desert died Thursday in a crash in Trenton.

Gage Johnson died at the scene, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office said in a release Friday.

Johnson was driving south on Bar Harbor Road around 6 p.m. when he passed another southbound vehicle. When he re-entered the southbound lane, he apparently lost control of his vehicle and then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go back into the northbound lane and hit another vehicle head-on, the release stated.

Officials determined that the speed at which Johnson was traveling factored into the crash, according to the release.

The northbound vehicle was driven by 28-year-old Ashley Gardner of Bar Harbor, the sheriff's office said. She was brought to Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital in Ellsworth to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

Nathaniel Gardner, 33, of Bar Harbor was a passenger in the vehicle, according to the release. He was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for injuries also not considered life-threatening, the sheriff's office said.

The primary investigating officer in the case is Sgt. Travis Frost of the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. He was assisted at the scene by Deputy Justin Burnett, Deputy Zack Allen, and Lt. Jacob Day. This crash is being reconstructed by Deputy Marcus Downes, according to the release.

The sheriff's office said they were assisted at the scene by Maine State Police, Trenton Fire Department, Ellsworth Fire Department, Bar Harbor, and Mount Desert Fire and Ambulance Service.
