Victim of fatal crash in LaGrange identified as Milo man

Two people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.

LAGRANGE, Maine — The person who died Sunday in a crash the town of LaGrange has been identified.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office identified him as 58-year-old Wendell Dunham of Milo, according to a Facebook post.

Two people were in the single-vehicle crash on Medford Road the morning of Jan. 21, and emergency officials responded to the scene shortly before 10 a.m.

Upon arrival, deputies and members of the LaGrange Fire Department found a vehicle overturned in Cold Stream, which is a shallow brook that runs underneath the road, according to police.

Dunham was found dead inside the vehicle, and another individual later identified as 45-year-old Wayne Weeks of Medford apparently escaped the vehicle and was found nearby, Penobscot County Sheriff's Office said Sunday in a news release.

It was not made clear whether Weeks was injured, nor who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, and law enforcement have said no other information is being released at this time.

Early investigation suggested the driver lost control of the vehicle due to snow and ice on the roadway, but the circumstances that led to the crash remain unknown.

The crash remains under active investigation.
