Gas line struck by worker in Westbrook expected to cause traffic delays

WESTBROOK, Maine — Traffic delays are expected after a gas line was struck in Westbrook Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., the Westbrook Fire Department said on Facebook a gas line was struck during a digging operation in the area of Spring Street and Thomas Drive.

The fire department said Unitil crews are working to secure the leak, and gas and electrical service in the area will be impacted.

At the time of the social media post, fire officials said gas continues to leak into the open air.

Nearby residents have reported a light smell of gas in the area.
