Portland police warn 'dangerous' man to be released from jail

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Portland Police are issuing a warning about a man who is being released from jail Wednesday.

Police say Steven Ricci has an extensive criminal history and he is known to re-offend.

Ricci has also been diagnosed with mental illness. In the fall of 2006, Mr. Ricci attempted to lure a teenage girl into his vehicle to have sex, police report.

Ricci had been incarcerated for probation violation, but his criminal history includes indecent conduct, assaultive criminal behavior, violating conditions of release and stalking behaviors dating to the 1990's.

Portland Police say that because he is high risk to re-offend they are alerting the public specifically those who might live in his neighborhood on Brighton Ave.

Ricci will be on probation and will be required to wear a GPS electronic monitoring device at all times, although back in December police said he used a a knife to cut that device off his ankle.

Police say Ricci has physical disability that causes him to walk with a distinctive gait.
