He endured horrible abuse as a puppy. See how 'Blue' is doing now

His story captured hearts all over Maine. Three years later -- "Blue" is thriving in his new home.

BRUNSWICK (NEWS CENTER Maine) – “Blue” started his life with his muzzle taped shut - and captured hearts all over Maine.

In 2015, the pit bull puppy was found in the Bethel area. He was horribly abused, in need of medical care and a new home.

At the time, donations came pouring in and the phone was ringing off the hook for people looking to adopt the lovable pit.

Three years later, Blue is thriving. He loves running, swimming, playing fetch, and spending time with his new family.

Happy Mother’s Day

“He had the willingness to live and the ability to forgive,” said Blue’s adopted mom Sandy. She says while Blue’s physical scars remain, his emotional scars have healed with the exception of nightmares. “Every day he at least has one where he whimpers and cries out,” Sandy said.

Blue was loved by Mainers in 2015, and he still is today. Sandy runs an Instagram page with more than 5,000 followers. “I'm trying to be proactive and take his story and show people that he's moved on and we all can learn something from that,” she explained. The Instagram page is Sandy's way of keeping Blue's supporters up to date.

Blue’s abuse case is still an open investigation. The person who taped his mouth shut has not been found. “We never found out the person that abused him, but this is justice,” Sandy said. “[Blue is] helping others.”

Sandy spends her days traveling with Blue and educating people on pit bulls. She says she wants his lovable personality to end the stigma that surrounds his breed. The mother-dog son duo is also training to be a therapy team.
