RAVE 'N' RAGE | The Roots run deep

The musical acts featured by Xander Nelson this week include The Roots, Beef Stu and Stephen Lewis & the Big Band of Fun

PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Whether familial or musical, The Roots that bond the two Nelson men of the MORNING REPORT run deep.

As the house band for The Tonight Show on NBC, The Roots were the most high-profile of all the acts featured by Xander Nelson in his weekly Rave 'N' Rage roundup of the Maine music scene.

As a broadcaster for the local NBC affiliate, Lee Nelson can claim kinship with the band under an extension of the same network umbrella. But Xander one-upped his father with a closer connection. The bass player in his band also plays with Kenya Hall, who will accompany The Roots at their Portland performance.
