Police investigate homicide after two adults found dead at Searsmont home

The Maine Department of Public Safety on Tuesday publicly identified the people involved.

SEARSMONT, Maine — Police are investigating after two adults were found dead at a Searsmont home Monday afternoon.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss, the Waldo County Sheriff's Office responded to a Borough Road home at approximately 1:50 p.m. and found the two people dead.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-Central was reportedly called to investigate the incident. 

In an update Tuesday, Moss said the two individuals were identified as 50-year-old Amy Nickerson, of Stockton Springs, and 50-year-old Lance Lucas, of Searsmont.

"The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has ruled the death of Amy Nickerson as a homicide," Moss said Tuesday afternoon. "The cause of death was a gunshot wound. The OCME has ruled the death of Lance Lucas as a suicide. The cause of death was a gunshot wound."

According to Moss, Nickerson and Lucas were domestic partners who had recently broken up.

"Detectives with MSP’s Major Crimes Unit-Central continue to investigate the sequence of events that occurred prior to and during the incident," Moss said.

Moss said Monday there was no risk to the public in relation to the incident.
