'I’ll just drive and he’ll be on puppy duty' - Bangor Police officer

Bangor Police officers on the Wreaths Across America convoy are adding to their mission this week in an unlikely way

GRASONVILLE, Md. — Bangor Police officers on the Wreaths Across America convoy are adding to their mission this week in an unlikely way.

Officers Jordan Perry and Danny Place were asked to help make a Waldoboro woman’s Christmas wish come true by picking up a rescue dog while they are in Virginia.

”It won’t be the first time we’ve had an animal in the car,” Officer Jordan Perry said. “We’ll be animal control unit on the way home and we’ll have a big smile on our face while we’re doing it.”

The 14-week-old Border Collie puppy named Tessa will be picked up after the wreath laying in Arlington National Cemetery Saturday. She will join them in the cruiser for the long ride home.

NEWS CENTER’s Zach Blanchard asked the first question that came to mind:

Q: ”Whose job is it to pick up the mess?”

A: “Definitely Officer Perry,” Place said.

“Well he says that, but he’s got three labs of his own, so he’s an expert in the matter. No pun intended. We’ve had this discussion. I’ll just drive and he’ll be on puppy duty,” Perry said.

In all seriousness, the two officers are humbled by the trip. They said they do not want to take away from the important mission of Wreaths Across America, but wanted to just do the right thing.

It's a matter of giving back even in the simplest of ways, something this trip is all about.

”You couldn’t have picked two better people to ask to bring home a puppy to somebody who is rescuing a puppy, giving them a home. It’s phenomenal and we feel honored to be able to help her in any way that we can,” Officer Place said.
