BRIDGEWATER (NEWS CENTER Maine) – Court documents shed some light with some shocking detail in a crime that left many what led at a 37-year-old man to kill 79-year-old Paul Hilenski this past January.

"Paul opens the door, and the male fires multiple rounds at Paul appearing to strike him."

That is from the affidavit detailing police accounts of the actions of 37-year-old James Peaslee, who is charged with the murder in connection with the death of 79-year-old Paul Hilenski, of Bridgewater on January 17th of this year.

The affidavit shows Detective Lawrence Anderson said, “As officers made entry into the residence to check Paul’s well being, they noticed an active security camera surveillance system.”

“I viewed the video on the surveillance system,” Anderson continued. “A vehicle stopped on the side of the road in front of Paul’s residence. The male had a black handgun in his right hand as he’s walking toward the door. The male knocks on the door and Paul goes to answer the door from inside the residence. Paul opens the door and the male fires.”

The court document states that a Maine state trooper, who was very familiar with the area and its residents, viewed the video and positively identified the shooter as James Peaslee.

Peaslee was arrested in Easton early the next morning and was transported to the Aroostook County jail where he remains at this time.
