One dead after residential fire in Carmel

The fire is still under investigation, but there is no indication of foul play, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

CARMEL, Maine — One person died in a residential fire in Carmel Friday afternoon, according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Carmel Fire Department responded to the fire just before 3 p.m. at 26 Haskell Road and determined one person, believed to be 70-year-old Joseph Jack, had died.

Jack, who lived at the home with his wife, was home alone at the time of the fire.

The fire is still under investigation, but there is no indication of foul play, MDPS spokesperson Shannon Moss said.

Multiple agencies assisted Carmel fire at the scene, including Levant, the Air National Guard, Hermon, Hampden, Newburgh and Newport fire departments. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, Levant Ambulance and the Northern Light Ambulance also assisted.
