Artist Ashley Gray opens new art gallery in Rockland showcasing his wood sculptures and paintings.

ID=14024899ROCKLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- There's an artist from Rangeley who's known for his creative use of color not just on canvas, but also on wood. Ashley Gray has been sculpting and painting wood since he graduated from art school in his 20's and just opened his first art gallery in Rockland this summer.

Gray is most well known for his ability to take wood from the bayou country of Louisiana and turn it into artwork that resembles a life sized birds. The flying animals have been his inspiration since he was a young boy and that he uses in his carvings as well as several paintings. According to Gray the natural beauty of Maine helps with his inspiration.

"Just an incredible place to live," said Gray. "It inspires me and being a wildlife artist you couldn't live in a better place."
