Dexter elementary school evacuated Thursday due to threat

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved with the investigation, Superintendent Kevin Jordan told NEWS CENTER Maine.

DEXTER, Maine — An elementary school in Dexter was evacuated Thursday due to a threat.

Ridge View Community School students were taken to Dexter Regional High School shortly after 9:45 a.m. after school officials were contacted by Dexter police about the threat, Sgt. Gary Morin of the Dexter Police Department told NEWS CENTER Maine.

Maine State Police and K9s were called in to sweep the school, and nothing was found, Superintendent Kevin Jordan told NEWS CENTER Maine.

Parents picked students up at the high school, and the process went smoothly, according to Jordan. 

Jordan told NEWS CENTER Maine the Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved with the investigation.

Dexter is part of AOS #94, which also includes the towns of Exeter, Garland, Harmony, Ripley, and Athens. 

Jordan posted the following message on the district's website Thursday: 

"DUE TO A THREAT THAT WAS RECEIVED CONCERNING RIDGE VIEW COMMUNITY SCHOOL WE WILL BE EVACUATING ALL STUDENTS TO DEXTER REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL. PARENTS CAN PROCEED TO THE HIGH SCHOOL TO PICK UP THEIR CHILDREN. PLEASE GO TO THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL IN A CALM AND ORDERLY FASHION AND FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING."

Jordan said school would continue normal operations Friday with a police presence at the school.
