Waterville police ask for help in locating a man accused of assaulting an officer

An officer who approached the suspect was reportedly assaulted, causing a broken bone and concussion.

WATERVILLE, Maine — Police in Waterville are asking for help in locating a man who is accused of assaulting an officer and operating a truck that was reported stolen out of Somerset County.

The silver Toyota Tacoma was found parked at a Circle K on Kennedy Memorial Drive by Officer Josh Medeiros at about 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release issued by the Waterville Police Department.

A woman appeared to be passed out or sleeping in the passenger's seat, and a man was standing behind the vehicle when Medeiros approached.

The man then reportedly assaulted Medeiros, who was taken to the hospital to be treated for a broken bone and concussion, before fleeing in the stolen vehicle, the release stated.

Medeiros was later released from the hospital, and the vehicle was found abandoned in Fairfield, where police say another vehicle was stolen.

Police are seeking the public's help in locating the second truck reported stolen, described as a blue Ford F-250 with license plate 1444ZF.

The suspect is described as being between 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-1, about 220 pounds, and red "mid-length" hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black-and-white flannel shirt, and a baseball cap.

Police ask people not to approach the suspect or vehicle, if it is spotted, but to instead call 9-1-1 to alert local law enforcement.
