Waterville homicide suspect in police custody following chase in Arkansas

Maine State Police detectives are working with Arkansas State Police to investigate after Spridal Hubiak, 20, of Waterville was located in the town of Flippin.

FLIPPIN, Ark. — The suspect of a homicide in Waterville is receiving treatment in a Missouri hospital following a police chase in Arkansas.

Maine State Police were notified at about 12:58 a.m. Sunday that police in Flippin, Arkansas, were in contact with 20-year-old Spridal Hubiak of Waterville, who was apparently sleeping in a parking lot in town, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

Hubiak is suspected of killing 52-year-old Angela Bragg of Waterville last week at Damon's Beverage, where they both worked. An autopsy revealed Bragg died of sharp force injury and ruled the death a homicide. Maine State Police reported Hubiak fled Maine on Thursday.

Moss said when police in Flippin approached Hubiak, he reportedly fled in the Ford Taurus he was driving from Maine, and a chase ensued. The chase ended in Boone County when Arkansas State Police put out spike mats, disabling Hubiak's car.

According to Arkansas police, Hubiak's vehicle crashed into the White Oak gas station in the town of Bellefonte and he exited the car with an AR-style rifle.

Hubiak was then shot, according to Moss. Hubiak was flown by helicopter to a medical facility in Springfield, Missouri, where he's receiving treatment. Moss said it's unclear what condition he's in, but he is expected to live.

He is in the custody of the Green County, Missouri sheriff's office while hospitalized, according to Arkansas police.

Maine State Police are working with the Boone County Sheriff's Department and Arkansas State Police on this investigation.
