WESTBROOK, Maine — The Westbrook Police Department is asking for help identifying a man accused of following and verbally accosting a high school student Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the man was driving a silver sedan when he began following the student on Monroe Avenue, down Stroudwater Street to Vocational Drive.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a Black male in his 30s with a heavy build, has a short haircut, and speaks with a French accent.

Police said patrols will be increased in the area through Thursday.

"It's concerning," Joe Glynn, who lives on Monroe Avenue, said about the incident. "There are a couple of schools around here and there's a lot of kids walking up and down the street. It's disheartening to hear that is going on here in Westbrook."

Glynn told NEWS CENTER Maine Monroe Avenue is typically peaceful.
