BELFAST, Maine — The suspect in an alleged hit-and-run crash at a Belfast motel now faces assault charges after his arrest Monday.

On Oct. 30, Belfast police were called to a reported hit-and-run crash at the Admiral's Ocean Inn located at 222 Searsport Ave. at approximately 11 p.m. while officers were responding to an assault investigation at the Gull Motel nearby, a news release from the Belfast Police Department said.

Police reportedly discovered a woman who witnesses said had been struck by a gray Jeep Cherokee and pinned against the building. Witnesses said the driver, who was identified as 56-year-old Ronald Grover of Waldoboro, fled the scene, according to the release.

The woman required immediate medical care and was brought to the Waldo County Hospital, police said. An exterior wall of the building was damaged in the crash.

On Monday at approximately 5 p.m., Belfast officers and Waldo County Sheriff's Office deputies located Grover in Stockton Springs and arrested him on felony arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a vehicle, police said.

Grover is now being held on cash bail at the Waldo County Jail. He is expected to be arraigned on Dec. 29 in Waldo County Superior Court.

Belfast Police Chief Robert Cormier told NEWS CENTER Maine the alleged hit-and-run crash appears to be related to the assault investigation at the Gull Motel. He said the motive for the assault with a vehicle is still unclear, and police do not have any indication that the suspect and victim were in a relationship.

The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Belfast Police Department at 207-338-2040.
