One dead in apparent shooting in Waterville

One person died as a result of the shooting, and another was shot at but wasn't injured, according to public safety officials.

WATERVILLE, Maine — One person has died in an apparent shooting Monday morning in Waterville.

At about 8:10 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting outside 18 South Grove St., Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.

Moss said one person died as a result of the shooting, and another was shot at but ultimately wasn't injured.

The body of the individual who died was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be performed Tuesday, according to the release.

Waterville police were assisted by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit in the response and investigation, the release said.

Moss said there was no danger to the public, and the investigation remains ongoing.

"We will have additional information as the investigation continues," she said.
