Facial tattoos lead officers to pipe-wielding BJ's robber, Auburn police say

Auburn BJ's workers tried to stop Jeremy Proctor of Lewiston from leaving with a cart full of stolen merchandise, police said.

AUBURN, Maine — A pipe-wielding Lewiston man accused of robbing a BJ's Wholesale Club Monday night in Auburn was quickly identified and arrested due to his facial tattoos, according to police.

Jeremy Proctor, 38, faces a host of charges.

Auburn police said they were called to BJ's around 7 p.m. after store employees said Proctor pulled a metal pipe from his sleeve to threaten them while they tried to stop him from leaving with a cart full of stolen merchandise.

Police said he fled in a vehicle, but officers quickly identified him because of his facial tattoos, which include a cross on his forehead and markings on his cheeks and brow. Proctor was tracked by police to the corner of Pine Street in Lewiston around 10 p.m. and arrested him, police said.

Proctor was also at the same BJ's the same store Friday, when police said he reportedly brandished a knife while trying to steal merchandise. He was charged with two counts of robbery for both instances and also faces charges for criminal mischief and violating conditions of release, police said.

He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail and held without bail because he has active bail conditions related to previous felony theft charge he's facing for a theft in Lewiston, according to police.
