You won't want to miss this holiday light display in southern Maine

It features 23,000 lights and music you can play in your car while the lights dance to the rhythm of the holiday tunes.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — It's the most wonderful time of the year, and Mainers throughout the state have been busy decorating their homes inside and out.

If you enjoy checking out holiday lights displays, there's one house in York County you'll want to visit.

The owners of 3 Elm St. in Old Orchard Beach, Matt Doughty and Jordan Cadorette, are sharing joy with others with their handmade holiday decorations. It features 23,000 lights and music you can play in your car by tuning into 93.3 while the lights dance to the rhythm of the holiday melodies. There's even a photo booth where visitors can take festive pictures.

"That was something that we added this year, because unfortunately, where we do have cords, and electric, and lights and all that, we can't have people walking through the show," Doughty said. "We figured we would kind of bring a little area to them, especially since they are dancing lights. It's really hard to get good photos, so we figured we'd add a little photo booth area, which will help spread the word on Facebook and allow them to get some good photos if they want."

The homeowners say it all started during the pandemic as a way to bring happiness, joy, and light to anyone in need of it. Now it's a tradition.

"We do it for the community, for those who need the extra pick-me-up, or those who are just looking to find some holiday spirit," Doughty said. "It's everything. I wear the Santa hat from the day after Thanksgiving until the day of Christmas, so it's something that I do. And even though people find it silly, maybe some people find this crazy, people are always asking about the light bill, but that doesn't matter because as long as it brings a smile across, then I know it's done its job."

The light show runs daily from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and will be on display through the end of the year.

There's also a donation box located right outside their house. A portion of the proceeds donated will go to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland, and a small portion will go toward their own yearly investments.
