Sheep shearing is an annual spring chore in Denmark

DENMARK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The third part of our show always comes out of the archives. This week we went all the way back to 2007 when we visited the Denmark Sheepfest at the Denmark Arts Festival.

Here they were shearing sheep for area farms. Jeff Johnson is an expert at this back breaking work. During the day we were there, they sheared about fifty sheep. Some of the fleeces will go to fairs to be judged in the fall. Others were taken inside the arts center where they were being spun into wool by hand.

There were also other fiber arts on display such as hand woven figurines.

The Sheepfest is a wonderful spring get together which reminds us of festive occasions in days gone by.

It also shows us that there are many small farmers who want to keep a way of life going.

They are indeed a tight knit bunch.
