UNE medical student is also a Patriots Cheerleader

Victoria Nguyen is a medical student at the University of New England in Biddeford, and a Patriots Cheerleader. Chasing both her passions keeps her busy, but she would not have it any other way.

BIDDEFORD (NEWS CENTER Maine) - Victoria Nguyen has two passions; medicine and cheerleading.

Victoria attended Boston University for undergrad and graduate school. After taking a gap year she decided to give trying out for the New England Patriots Cheerleading squad a shot.

"I always toyed with the idea of becoming an NFL Cheerleader," said Nguyen. "I cheerleaded most of my life through elementary school all the way up through college."

Making the team was a dream come true.

"The moment she said my name it was really exciting. I kind of like blacked out for a second and was like I can't believe this is happening right now," said Nguyen.

Shortly after joining the Pats cheer squad Victoria started medical school at the University in New England in Biddeford. Commuting back and forth from Foxboro, her schedule is as busy as you would imagine it to be.

"Tuesday's are usually when we have practice because on Wednesday mornings I start later," said Nguyen. "So I will leave after class, go to practice then I will drive back in the morning Wednesday and I will go to class straight from there."

Victoria has a couple of more years of medical score before she begins her residency. She has aspirations to one day work in a hospital and then become a professor.

"I love working with the senior citizen populations so I want to go into geriatrics right now," said Nguyen. "But I am keeping my options open because everything in science is just so interesting to me."

Not a lot of her peers at UNE know about Nguyen cheering for the Patriots, but she loves it when her two worlds collide.

"It's not something I tell a lot of people," said Nguyen. "So whenever people walk by and they have like Patriots gear on inside I am kind of like snickering and I am excited."

As far as Super Bowl number six? She isn't ready to talk about that just yet.

"I am not going to comment on it right now," said Nguyen. "We will see what happens. I am hoping for the best."
